Trinamool MPs raise concerns over SIR in West Bengal
The Trinamool Congress MPs met with the Election Commission of India (ECI) to discuss their concerns about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal.
They raised questions about the purpose of the SIR, the deaths of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) due to workload, and the refusal to allow local staff to assist with data entry.
The ECI, however, did not provide satisfactory answers to their questions.
The MPs also accused the ECI of having 'blood on their hands' due to the deaths of BLOs.
The ECI has directed West Bengal's top law enforcement officials to ensure the security of election personnel and prevent any intimidation.
The ECI has also appointed 12 senior IAS officers as electoral roll observers to monitor the SIR process in West Bengal.
