Supreme Court Orders Karnataka to Release TDR to Wadiyars
Imagine the government took some land from a royal family to make roads.
The Supreme Court said the government has to give the family something called TDR certificates worth a lot of money as a trade.
The government is trying to avoid this, saying the land's value is now too high.
The royal family says the government is ignoring the court's orders because they issued new rules six weeks after the SC order.
The Supreme Court is stepping in to make sure the government does what it's supposed to.
The Supreme Court directed the Karnataka government to release Rs 3,400 crore in Transferable Development Rights (TDR) to the Wadiyar family.
The TDR is compensation for 15 acres of land acquired 20 years ago for road widening.
The government initially calculated the compensation at around Rs 1,400 crore but the SC fixed rates.
The government contested the order, citing the recent valuation of the land and its potential high cost.
The Wadiyar family claimed the government defied the Supreme Court order by issuing an ordinance.
