India’s Stock Market Sees Gen Z‑Led Investor Surge
India’s stock market has grown a lot, with more than 13 crore people now registered to trade.
Most of these new traders are under 30, especially Gen Z, and about a quarter are women.
Most of the trading is in the cash market, where people buy and hold shares, not just quick bets.
A tiny group of big‑spending traders does most of the money flow, while most people trade very little.
The growth shows that more Indians are getting into investing, helped by easy online tools and a younger, tech‑savvy crowd.
Investor base grew from ~3 crore in 2020 to 13.24 crore in 2026.
Active investors: 4.40 crore, with 3.55 crore in cash market and 85 lakh in F&O.
Gen Z (under 30) made up 59% of new registrations, lowering median age to 27.
Women represent 25% of all investors, with Goa leading at 33% female participation.
Top 0.3% of investors generate 79% of cash market turnover, showing high concentration.
