Monsoon Arrives Early in Kerala, Earliest in 16 Years
The monsoon, bringing much-needed rain, arrived in Kerala earlier than usual, on May 24.
This is the earliest it's arrived in 16 years.
The monsoon has already moved across several areas near Kerala.
The IMD confirms the monsoon when certain weather conditions, like enough rain, strong winds, and cloud cover, are present.
However, an early arrival in Kerala does not automatically mean it will cover the rest of India early.
The Southwest Monsoon arrived in Kerala on May 24, the earliest since 2009.
The monsoon arrived eight days ahead of the normal onset date of June 1.
