Indian Sailors Win Asian Games Bronze After Chinese Disqualification
Harshita Tomar and Shital Verma competed for India in a sailing race at the Asian Games.
They crossed the finish area thinking they had finished fourth.
China’s boat had finished third and appeared to have won the last medal.
Officials later disqualified the Chinese sailors.
Because of that, every boat behind China moved up one place.
India therefore received the bronze medal.
Japan won gold and Hong Kong, China won silver.
Another Indian pair, Manu Francis and Prince Kurisinkal Noble, won silver in the men’s skiff on the same day.
Harshita Tomar and Shital Verma were initially fourth in the women’s skiff at Kaiyoh Yacht Harbor.
China’s Xiaoyu Hu and Yuyue Sun finished third on the water but were later disqualified.
India’s 24 net points placed Tomar and Verma fourth before China’s result was removed.
Japan won gold, Hong Kong, China took silver, and India was awarded bronze.
Manu Francis and Prince Kurisinkal Noble also won silver for India in the men’s skiff.
