Alarming Drowning Deaths Reported Daily in West Bengal
In West Bengal, India, too many people are sadly drowning every day.
Half of these are children, especially those between 1 and 9 years old.
This is a big problem that the Child in Need Institute (CINI) is trying to fix.
Many accidents happen when parents are working.
To help, they are putting fences around water and creating safe places for kids.
The government also wants to help, since many people are dying without anyone knowing how to save them, such as CPR.
Over 25 people drown daily in West Bengal, with half being children.
A recent survey found children aged 1-9 are the most vulnerable.
The survey was conducted by CINI and The George Institute for Global Health.
Most drowning incidents occur between noon and 2 pm.
Preventive measures include fencing water bodies and establishing child shelters.
