Hurricane Lala batters Hawaii: over 40,000 left without power

Hurricane Lala is a big, strong storm that blew into Hawaii.

It became a Category 1 hurricane, which means it has very strong winds.

The winds blew as fast as 75 miles per hour.

More than 40,000 people lost power because of the storm.

The storm also brought a lot of rain, maybe 10 to 20 inches.

So much rain can cause dangerous floods and mudslides.

The leader of Hawaii, Governor Josh Green, said this is a serious storm.

He declared a state of emergency to help people prepare.

Everyone on the Big Island was told to clear their gutters, secure their doors, and remove dangerous tree limbs.

The storm is also expected to make coastal areas dangerous through the weekend.
