Panel Urges NTA to Improve Exam Conduct
A group in the Indian government that looks at education issues has told the National Testing Agency (NTA) to do better with exams.
They said NTA has not been good at doing exams on time and has had problems like paper leaks and delays.
The group also said NTA has extra money (Rs.
448 crore) that it should use to make exams better.
They also talked about some new rules for universities and said the person in charge of the University Grants Commission (UGC) should be appointed soon.
The group wants UGC to talk to more people about these new rules to make sure everyone is included.
The committee also suggested that using pen and paper for exams might help prevent leaks, as these methods have been successful in other exams like CBSE and UPSC.
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education criticized NTA for delays in exam results and conduct.
NTA has a surplus of Rs. 448 crore from the past six years, which the committee recommends using to improve exam capabilities.
Five exams conducted by NTA in 2024 faced major issues, including postponements and paper leaks.
The committee supported a focus on pen-and-paper exams, citing their leak-proof history in CBSE and UPSC exams.
UGC has received 15,066 pieces of feedback on draft regulations and needs to appoint a new chairperson.
