UK Court Dismisses SFJ Libel Case; Pannun's Claim Continues
A UK court made a decision about a legal case.
The UK branch of a group called Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) sued someone, but the court said they didn't have a strong case.
However, the US leader of SFJ can continue with his claim.
The case was about comments made by someone, saying SFJ and its leader were funded by India's enemies.
The UK SFJ said this hurt their reputation, but the judge thought the article did not mention the UK branch and so dismissed it.
UK High Court dismissed a libel case by SFJ UK against Rami Ranger.
A similar libel claim by US-based SFJ leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun will proceed.
The case concerned a 2021 interview and tweet by Ranger alleging SFJ and Pannun were funded by "enemies of India."
SFJ UK and Pannun claimed the statements damaged their reputations.
The judge dismissed SFJ UK's claim, noting the article only referred to US-based SFJ.
