Gujarat Man Accused in $7.5 Million Fraud Stopped in Canada

Jay Sunilbharthi Goswami is a 21-year-old man from Gujarat, India.

He was living in Jersey City, New Jersey.

United States prosecutors accuse him of helping carry out a $7.5-million fraud scheme.

The alleged victims were elderly people.

A court released him before his trial.

Less than a day later, authorities say he went from the United States to Canada.

He had booked a flight from Toronto to Doha, Qatar.

Canadian authorities stopped him before he could take that flight.

He faces several fraud and money-laundering charges that can carry up to 20 years in prison.
