4,500 Pilgrims Depart for Amarnath Yatra

A group of 4,474 pilgrims left Jammu early Sunday morning to go to the Amarnath cave shrine in Kashmir.

They traveled in 166 vehicles to the Baltal base camp because the traditional route through Pahalgam is closed for repairs after recent rains caused damage.

The pilgrimage has been going smoothly, with over 400,000 people visiting the shrine so far.

The journey is expected to end on August 28.

A big landslide recently blocked the main highway between Jammu and Srinagar, but it was quickly cleared.
