Slipper Thrown at Pappu Yadav During Press Conference
A man threw a slipper at Pappu Yadav, a Member of Parliament, while he was talking to reporters at his home in New Delhi.
The attacker, Sumit, was stopped by Yadav’s supporters and taken to the police.
Yadav said the attack was planned and that a knife was also used.
He also said he has been threatened for a long time and that a large sum of money was offered on his head.
No police report has been filed yet, but the police are looking into what happened.
The incident happened after Yadav’s protest about money taken from the Ram Temple, which made some groups angry.
Yadav says the police did not give him enough protection.
The event shows how political protests can lead to violence.
A slipper was hurled at Independent MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav during a press conference at his New Delhi residence on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
The attacker, identified as 34‑year‑old Sumit from Bulandshahr, was overpowered by Yadav’s supporters and later detained by police; a knife was reportedly also present.
Yadav, who had staged a skit in Parliament over alleged Ram Temple donation theft, said he had been receiving threats and that a bounty of up to ₹51 lakh had been offered on his head.
No FIR has yet been filed, but police are investigating the incident and collecting CCTV footage; security around the MP’s residence has been tightened.
