Camera Traps Reveal Healthy Clouded Leopard Population in North Bengal

Camera Traps Reveal Healthy Clouded Leopard Population in North Bengal

Clouded leopards are very shy wild cats that mostly come out at night, which makes them very hard to see.

Cameras placed in the forests of north Bengal took pictures and videos of them.

Forest rangers were happy to see so many clouded leopards in the area.

The cameras were set up to count tigers, but they also found these rare cats.

The footage was sent to the Wildlife Institute of India to help figure out how many clouded leopards live there.

These cats were seen in four special forest areas in north Bengal.

Clouded leopards are in danger because fewer than 10,000 grown ones are left in the whole world.

People hunting them, cutting down forests, and taking away their food are some of the reasons.

The forest department wants to make a big plan to protect them.

On August 4, which is International Clouded Leopard Day, the state of Meghalaya also started a program called Mission Clouded Leopard to help save them.
