Weak Monsoon Cuts Siruvani Water Supply to Coimbatore

Weak Monsoon Cuts Siruvani Water Supply to Coimbatore

Coimbatore gets some of its drinking water from the Siruvani Dam.

The dam is in Kerala, where the rainy season has brought less rain than needed.

Because less water is flowing into the dam, the amount sent to Coimbatore has been reduced.

Daily supply fell from about 65 million litres to 55 million litres.

The dam currently has 26.7 feet of water, while its full level is 50 feet.

Officials are worried that supplies may become harder to manage if the water level keeps falling.

Some water is also lost through seepage from the dam.

Tamil Nadu and Kerala are planning repairs, but the work needs government approvals and funding first.
