Delhi SIR May Exclude 47.7 Lakh Voters From Draft Roll

Delhi is checking its voter lists through an exercise called SIR.

The check may leave about 47.7 lakh voters out of the draft list.

This does not necessarily mean all of them will lose their voting rights.

Officials found records that may contain unusual details.

For example, a person’s name might not match between the current list and the 2002 list.

The ages recorded for a voter and a parent might also seem unusually close or far apart.

Officials may also flag siblings whose recorded birthdays are less than nine months apart.

These records may need further checking before the final voter list is prepared.
