Punjab Orders Teachers Freed From All Non-Academic Duties

Punjab’s education secretary said teachers should mainly teach students.

She told district officials not to give them other kinds of work.

Teachers had been assigned tasks outside schools for much of the past year.

Some of these tasks were connected to elections and population counting.

They were also asked to help with a drug survey.

Other assignments involved government welfare schemes and health insurance cards.

Teachers even took children to government-organized religious programmes.

The new order aims to keep teachers focused on education.
