ECI Notice to Amartya Sen Sparks Opposition Criticism
The Election Commission of India (ECI) sent a notice to a famous economist named Amartya Sen because there were some mistakes in his voter registration form.
The hearing is scheduled for January 16 at his home.
Opposition leaders, who are not in the ruling party, are upset with the ECI.
They think the process of checking and updating voter lists, called Special Intensive Revision (SIR), is being done too quickly and is causing many people to be left out.
They believe the ECI is not acting fairly and is making it hard for people to vote.
One leader even said that the ECI is not respecting ideas but only papers.
The ECI, however, says they have given proper information to the people involved in the process.
The opposition also claims that the process is a conspiracy to weaken Uttar Pradesh by reducing the number of voters.
The ECI has refuted these allegations and stated that the process is being carried out properly.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) served a notice to Nobel laureate Amartya Sen for a hearing regarding discrepancies in his voter registration form.
Opposition leaders criticized the ECI for the notice and demanded a stop to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, calling the process flawed and disenfranchising.
Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav questioned the sudden addition of 1 crore voters after the Chief Minister's statement about the removal of 4 crore voters.
Congress state president Ajay Rai alleged that the deletion of nearly 3 crore voters is a conspiracy to weaken Uttar Pradesh.
The ECI refuted the allegations, stating that booth-level agents were properly informed and that the process is being carried out transparently.
