Rahane Reveals How He Saved Jaiswal From BCCI Ban
In cricket, players sometimes say mean things to each other to try to get an advantage.
During a big match called the 2022 Duleep Trophy final, a young player named Yashasvi Jaiswal kept saying mean things to a player from the other team.
He did not stop even when the umpire warned him.
His captain, Ajinkya Rahane, saw that the situation was getting out of hand.
Rahane sent Jaiswal off the field and told him to put ice on his head and come back later.
The match referee had already written a letter to suspend Jaiswal from four matches.
But when the referee saw that Rahane had handled the problem, he tore up the letter.
Jaiswal was not banned, and he played brilliantly, scoring 265 runs.
His team won the trophy and he was named the best player of the match.
Later, he started playing for India's national cricket team.
Ajinkya Rahane said he saved Yashasvi Jaiswal from a four-match BCCI ban during the 2022 Duleep Trophy final.
Jaiswal repeatedly sledged South Zone's T Ravi Teja during the final despite multiple umpire warnings.
Rahane, the West Zone captain, sent Jaiswal off the field and told him to put ice on his head and come back.
Match referee Vengalil Narayanan Kutty tore up the already-written ban letter after seeing Rahane discipline his own player.
Jaiswal scored 265 runs and was named Player of the Match as West Zone won the final; he made his India debut in 2023 in the West Indies.
