Madras High Court Allows PVR INOX to Continue Airport Operations
The Madras High Court has allowed PVR INOX to keep running its cinema hall at Chennai Airport while the central government decides if such facilities should be allowed.
The court said the cinema is outside the secure area and is useful for passengers and visitors.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) wanted to close the cinema, saying it's not allowed under their rules.
But the court said the AAI didn't prove that and told them to think about how other countries handle this.
PVR INOX argued that the AAI's decision was unfair and broke their rights.
The court will make a final decision later.
Madras High Court directed the Ministry of Civil Aviation to decide on allowing cinema multiplexes in airports.
PVR INOX challenged AAI's order to close its cinema hall at Chennai Airport's Aerohub.
Court allowed PVR INOX to continue operations until a policy decision is made by the Centre.
AAI cited security issues, but the court noted the cinema is outside the security zone.
PVR INOX argued that AAI's decision was arbitrary and violated their constitutional rights.
