NGT Orders Action on Failed Tree Plantations in Rajasthan
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) in Bhopal is very concerned about the failure of tree plantations and possible misuse of money in the forests near Kota, Rajasthan.
A man named Tapeshwar Singh Bhati filed a complaint saying that the government did not properly restore forest land that was used for building a highway.
The NGT found out that the government had given a lot of money for planting trees and building walls, but most of the trees did not survive.
Some officials might have tried to hide this by planting new trees.
The NGT is very serious about this and has asked the top forest official in Rajasthan to investigate.
They also ordered that new trees should be planted and that officials who made mistakes should be punished.
The next hearing is in March 2026.
NGT takes serious note of failed compensatory afforestation and alleged fund misuse in Rajasthan's Kota district.
Rs 25.72 crore was deposited for tree plantations and other measures, but most saplings did not survive.
Inspection reports reveal fresh replantation attempts to cover up earlier failures, raising accountability concerns.
NGT directs Rajasthan's Principal Chief Conservator of Forests to personally examine the matter and initiate disciplinary action.
Fresh plantation plan for 400 hectares ordered, with strict monitoring to ensure survival of new saplings.
