UP Plans Government Procurement Push for Local Handloom Products
The Uttar Pradesh government wants public hospitals and other government institutions to buy more cloth made by local weavers.
The products could include bedsheets, pillow covers and gauze bandage cloth.
Officials discussed sending these products through the Uttar Pradesh State Handloom Corporation Limited.
Weaver cooperatives and individual weavers would help make the goods.
The plan is intended to give weaver families a steady place to sell their products.
The government also hopes young people will continue the traditional weaving profession.
Officials will set rules for quality, prices, orders, payments and delivery.
They were asked to complete the plan soon.
