India’s Options Turnover Falls as NSE Faces IPO Pressure

India’s Options Turnover Falls as NSE Faces IPO Pressure

Trading in options at India’s biggest stock exchange dropped sharply.

The exchange recorded about ₹67,000 crore in options turnover on Tuesday, a monthly expiry day.

This was its lowest level since December.

Trading in regular shares also fell to its lowest level since November.

New rules were introduced to slow down very active derivatives trading.

These rules include fewer weekly expiries and larger contract sizes.

A new auction that sets closing prices has also changed how traders operate.

The decline could make it harder for the exchange to prepare for its planned IPO, although one strategist called the problem temporary.
