Uttarakhand Assembly Passes Bill to Regulate Minority Schools
Uttarakhand is creating a new group to oversee schools for minority groups.
This new group, the USAME, replaces the old Madrasa Board and will include members from different communities.
Schools must follow new rules to be recognized, like using bank accounts and not forcing students to join religious activities.
The government can also step in and change things if needed.
The goal is to better manage and regulate these schools.
Uttarakhand's Assembly passed the Uttarakhand State Authority for Minority Education (USAME) Bill, 2025.
The new law replaces the Madrasa Board and brings all minority educational institutions under the USAME.
USAME will consist of 12 members, including academicians, a retired civil servant, and government officials.
Institutions must meet new recognition conditions, including financial transparency and non-compulsory religious activities.
The USAME can cancel recognition for fund misuse or violation of regulations.
