Ghatampur Thermal Power Project's Second Unit Commissioned
The Ghatampur Thermal Power plant in Uttar Pradesh has started its second unit, which makes a lot of electricity.
This plant is owned by two companies working together.
The first part of the plant started working last year, and the second part just started now.
The electricity from this plant will be sold to two places: most of it to Uttar Pradesh and a smaller part to Assam.
The plant was supposed to be finished much earlier, but it took longer and cost more money than planned.
The people in charge say they worked hard to get it done, and the first part has already made a lot of money.
The third part of the plant is expected to start working next year.
The second unit of the Ghatampur Thermal Power plant in Uttar Pradesh was commissioned in December 2025, adding 660 MW to the grid.
The plant is owned by Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), a joint venture between NLC India Limited (51%) and UPRVUNL (49%).
75% of the electricity produced will be sold to UP Power Corporation at ₹4.52 per kWhr, with the remaining 25% going to Assam power utility.
The project has faced significant delays, with the first unit originally scheduled for June 2020 and the third unit now expected in April 2026.
The cost of the project has exceeded initial estimates, with ₹20,578 crore spent as of October 2025, compared to the initial estimate of ₹19,406 crore.
