Birsa Munda Zoo Plans to Acquire Lion Pair from Chhattisgarh
The Birsa Munda Zoo in Ranchi wants to get a male and female lion from another zoo in Chhattisgarh.
They need the lions because their only female lion died from an illness.
The zoo is hoping to trade animals like a hyena, crocodile and deer for the lions.
The plan has to be approved by a special group first.
The zoo officials are also not sure if the lions will be used for display or to have more baby lions.
Sadly, it is common for female animals to get this kind of infection.
Despite this the zoo takes precautions.
Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park seeks a lion pair from Nandanvan Zoo.
The zoo's lone lioness, Priyanka, died from a bacterial infection.
Priyanka was a hybrid lioness; the zoo currently has one male lion.
Zoo is planning an animal exchange program, pending approval.
The lion pair's purpose (display or breeding) is yet to be decided.
