Chennai Airport Leads in International Freight Handling Growth
Imagine Chennai airport as a busy delivery hub.
In the first three months of 2025, it handled 19% more packages than last year, which is the fastest growth among big airports.
This is because more iPhones are being sent out, and electronics parts are coming in.
While Delhi and Mumbai airports handle more packages overall, Chennai is growing the quickest.
This boost is partly due to the skilled workers and companies, like the iPhone factory Foxconn, located nearby.
Chennai airport saw a 19% increase in international freight handling in the quarter ending June 2025.
This growth is the highest among major airports, surpassing Bengaluru.
Chennai handled 82,844 tonnes of international freight, up from 69,629 tonnes the previous year.
The increase is primarily due to increased export of Apple iPhones and import of electronic components.
Delhi and Mumbai airports handled more freight overall, but Chennai showed the highest growth rate.
