Madhya Pradesh Police Reviews Sub-Inspector Promotions to Inspector
In the state of Madhya Pradesh, the police department is deciding who should get a higher rank at work.
Getting a higher rank is called a promotion.
Many police officers were recently given promotions.
Officers who used to be constables became head constables, and some head constables became assistant sub-inspectors.
Now the department is checking on a group of officers called sub-inspectors who want to become inspectors, an even higher job.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, bosses did not write reports about how well some sub-inspectors worked.
Without those reports, the officers were passed over for promotion.
The police leaders are now reviewing those cases again, and they think more than 100 sub-inspectors will get promoted this time.
Madhya Pradesh Police Headquarters has started a departmental promotion committee (DPC) review of sub-inspectors for promotion to inspectors.
A total of 27,534 police officers and personnel across 58 cadres have been promoted.
Of these, 12,928 constables were promoted to head constables and 5,171 head constables to assistant sub-inspectors.
Records of about 2,100 acting inspectors and sub-inspectors were scrutinized, of whom 1,029 were promoted to inspectors.
Annual confidential reports of several sub-inspectors were left unwritten during the Covid-19 second wave, prompting a review expected to promote over 100 more sub-inspectors.
