Telangana HC Orders GITAM University to Pay Rs 54 Crores for Power
The Telangana High Court has told GITAM University in Hyderabad to pay Rs 54 crores within three weeks.
This is half of the money they owe for electricity.
The power company cut off their electricity because another company, VBC Ferro Alloys Ltd., which is on the university's campus, didn't pay Rs 108 crores.
The university said they only own a small part of VBC and are willing to pay if the connection is proven.
The court said the university should pay half the money before the power is turned back on.
Telangana High Court orders GITAM University to pay Rs 54 crores within three weeks for power restoration.
The payment is 50% of the outstanding electricity dues of Rs 108 crores owed by VBC Ferro Alloys Ltd.
The power was disconnected on December 19, 2023, by the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGSPDCL).
GITAM University argued that its chairman and secretary hold only 2.17% shareholding in VBC Ferro Alloys Ltd.
The court modified an earlier order that had directed the power company to restore supply without any conditions.
