Jharkhand Sisters Remove 80,000 Kilograms of Plastic Through Community Cleanups
Two sisters saw a picnic place covered with plastic waste.
They decided to clean it instead of walking away.
In 2023, they started a foundation in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand.
Volunteers have helped remove more than 80,000 kilograms of waste from water bodies.
They have cleaned rivers, lakes, ponds and waterfalls.
Their work includes places such as Tamasin Waterfall, Tilaiya Dam and Hazaribagh Jheel.
The sisters also talk to students, villagers and visitors about keeping public places clean.
They say cleaning is not enough because people may litter again.
Their goal is to help communities take responsibility for shared spaces.
Anjali Neeraj and her sister Ruchi founded the Vasudha Kalyan United Foundation in Hazaribagh in 2023.
The foundation says it has removed more than 80,000 kilograms of plastic and other waste from Jharkhand water bodies.
Cleanups have taken place at rivers, lakes, ponds and waterfalls, including Tamasin Waterfall, Tilaiya Dam and Hazaribagh Jheel.
A mid-2025 report cited a lower total of 50,000 kilograms, while the foundation’s latest figure exceeds 80,000 kilograms.
Alongside cleanups, the sisters conduct awareness sessions in schools, villages and visitor areas to discourage littering.
