India Rolls Out AI Pest Detection System to Aid Farmers
India is using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help farmers protect their crops.
The government is rolling out a system that uses AI to spot pests, which can eat crops and reduce harvests.
This AI system takes pictures of pests to identify them and then gives advice on how to get rid of them.
This should help farmers grow more food, earn more money, and use fewer pesticides.
Another AI tool, called Kisan e-Mitra, helps farmers get answers to questions about government programs.
It translates the information into multiple languages.
India is rolling out an AI-driven pest detection system for farmers nationwide.
The National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS) launched August 15, 2024, currently has 30,000 users.
The system uses AI to identify pests in 61 crops, aiming to reduce crop losses.
The Agriculture Ministry plans to expand the system to include more farmers and extension workers.
The government also uses AI for other farmer support, like the Kisan e-Mitra chatbot.
