BJP Seeks Forest Clearances to Complete Rapur Canal Works
BJP leaders want an irrigation canal project in Rapur mandal to be finished.
The canal is meant to bring water to farmers in 18 villages.
These villages depend mainly on rain and often face drought.
The leaders said the project stopped because forest permissions had not been received.
They said more than Rs 200 crore had already been spent on the work.
Farmers are now drilling very deep borewells to find water.
The BJP suggested using pumps to bring water from Kandaleru reservoir if the canal cannot be completed.
It also asked for the proposed canal linking Kandaleru Vagu with Rapur Pedda Cheruvu to be completed.
BJP leaders urged authorities to secure forest clearances and complete irrigation canal works serving 18 villages in Rapur mandal.
The villages are rain-fed, drought-prone settlements located among the hills, according to the BJP representation.
The leaders said more than Rs 200 crore had been spent on gravity-canal works before construction stopped because forest clearances were unavailable.
They proposed lift irrigation from Kandaleru reservoir if the required clearances cannot be obtained.
Farmers reportedly drill borewells 700 to 800 feet deep because of inadequate water supplies.
