Udupi Panchayat Accused of Defying Orders in Land Case
A man named Vasant Sherigar has been trying to get a land document for his property in Udupi, Karnataka, for almost four years.
He got all the necessary approvals, but the local Panchayat kept delaying and then cancelled the document without proper notice.
A human rights group, HRPF, says this is unfair and against the rules.
They are going to court because they think this shows bigger problems in how local governments work.
The Panchayat even asked for part of his land for a road, but there was no official plan for a road there.
The HRPF says the Panchayat's actions caused delays, broke the rules, and even cost the Panchayat money.
They want the officials to be held accountable.
Vasant Sherigar has faced delays and cancellation in obtaining a 9/11A land document for his inherited property in Udupi.
The Udyavara Gram Panchayat allegedly delayed the process and demanded a portion of land for a non-existent road.
Despite having all necessary approvals, the Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) stalled the issuance for over 18 months.
The HRPF has accused the Panchayat of violating procedural norms and ignoring directives from senior authorities.
The Zilla Panchayat CEO's order recommended disciplinary action against the officials involved.
