Delhi PG Collapse Puts Hostel Safety At DUSU Polls’ Center

A paying guest building in Delhi collapsed, killing five students and two laborers.

The accident happened shortly before Delhi University’s student elections.

Students are upset because there are not enough hostel rooms for everyone.

Many students therefore have to live in private paying guest homes or rented houses.

These homes can be expensive and may not feel safe.

Student groups Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and National Students’ Union of India have held protests.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad is demanding action against the city municipal commissioner.

National Students’ Union of India says both the Delhi and Central governments must answer for student safety.

The tragedy has made housing and safety major election issues.
