RDI Scheme to Boost Edible Oil Industry
The Indian government has launched a big plan called the RDI scheme with ₹1 lakh crore to help the edible oil industry.
This plan will help make better oilseeds, use new farming methods, and make the industry stronger.
The government also started a mission to help exports, which will make it easier for small businesses to sell their products.
The president of the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA) said this is a great step.
He also mentioned that the government needs to do more to help farmers grow more oilseeds instead of rice and wheat.
The government has also reduced the duty on a type of olive oil to make it cheaper for people in India.
The government’s ₹1-lakh-crore RDI scheme aims to boost the edible oil industry through technology-driven growth.
The Export Promotion Mission (EPM) with a ₹25,060-crore budget will consolidate export schemes into a digital platform.
Oilseed output for 2024-2025 is projected at a record 429.89 lakh tonnes, but import levels remain high.
The government increased the duty difference between crude and refined oils to curb excessive imports of refined oils.
The customs duty on crude pomace olive oil was reduced to 16.5% to benefit consumers.
