Godrej Agrovet Plans Oil Palm Expansion in Northeast India
Imagine a company called Godrej Agrovet that wants to grow more oil palm trees to make things like cooking oil.
They plan to add a lot more land for these trees by the year 2030!
They're especially focusing on the northeastern part of the country.
Right now, farmers need to wait about three years before the trees start producing fruit.
To help farmers, the government is providing some financial support, like helping with the cost of planting the trees and getting water to them.
Godrej is working with the government to help farmers grow oil palm and are providing saplings.
It's like they're working together to make it easier for farmers to grow these special trees!
Godrej Agrovet aims to increase oil palm plantation area by 60,000 hectares by 2030.
The company expects half of this expansion to be in northeastern states.
Godrej Agrovet currently has a palm oil milling capacity of 2 lakh tonnes per year.
Farmers face a three-year gestation period before oil palm trees bear fruit.
The government provides subsidies to help farmers with costs such as saplings and irrigation.
