Andhra Cabinet Approves BC Quotas Across Local Bodies
Andhra Pradesh’s Cabinet approved reserved places for Backward Classes, or BCs, in local government elections.
The percentages are based on a commission’s recommendations.
Different kinds of village, district, and city posts have different reservation rates.
For example, 26.73% of panchayat ward-member posts and 32.78% of urban ward-member posts are reserved for BCs.
Most articles report 33.02% for municipal chairpersons and 35.29% for mayors, but one article gives slightly different figures.
Officials still need to publish the formal reservation roster and verify the allocations.
The government says district-level seat counts are estimates until that work is complete.
The State Election Commission will take further steps after the reservations are finalised.
Andhra Pradesh’s Cabinet approved Backward Classes reservations for local-body posts based on the Rajiv Ranjan Mishra Commission’s recommendations.
Rural quotas include 26.73% for panchayat ward members, 27.95% for sarpanches, 25.55% for MPTCs, 24.60% for MPPs and ZPTCs, and 23.08% for Zilla Parishad chairpersons.
Urban ward-member reservations are set at 32.78%; most reports give 33.02% for municipal chairpersons and 35.29% for mayors, while one gives 32.03% and 35.02%.
