IT Dept. Eases Rules for Late ITR Processing, Allows Refunds
The Income Tax Department is making it easier for people to get tax refunds even if they filed their tax returns late, for reasons like illness or technical problems, as long as the delay was excused by authorities.
This means people can still get their money back.
The government will process these late returns filed before March 31, 2024, and will send information about the refunds by March 31, 2026.
However, if the income has already been assessed, or if the PAN and Aadhaar aren't linked, the relaxation won't apply.
IT Department eases time limit for processing late ITRs, allowing refunds.
Relaxation applies to returns filed by March 31, 2024, with delay condoned.
Intimations for processed ITRs will be sent to assessees by March 31, 2026.
The relaxation doesn't apply if income assessment or reassessment is complete.
Refunds won't be issued if PAN-Aadhaar linkage is missing.
