BJP owes apology to Manmohan Singh: Kerala CM
India's Supreme Court, a very important court, recently decided that a former leader named Manmohan Singh did nothing wrong in a case about coal.
Mr. Singh used to be the Prime Minister of India, which is like being the head of the whole country.
Some people had accused him of doing something bad with coal blocks, but the court said he was not guilty.
A leader from the state of Kerala, V D Satheesan, said the BJP, a big political party, should apologize to Mr. Singh.
He said that for many years people told untrue and unkind stories about Mr. Singh to make him look bad.
Mr. Singh helped India get helpful new laws, like the RTI Act, which lets people ask for information, and MGNREGA, which gives people work.
Another leader named Sonia Gandhi also wrote a nice article about Mr. Singh, saying history will remember him kindly.
Mr. Satheesan said history will remember Mr. Singh as a quiet and gentle man and one of the most important Prime Ministers of India.
He thinks saying sorry is the right thing to do after the court showed Mr. Singh was honest.
Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan said the BJP owes an apology to late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The Supreme Court of India acquitted Singh in the coal block allocation scam, with the verdict delivered on July 29.
Satheesan's remarks cited Congress leader Sonia Gandhi's The Indian Express article titled 'History will indeed remember Dr Manmohan Singh kindly'.
He described the scrutiny as a 'manufactured scandal' and a sustained campaign of slander, including a 'raincoat' jibe on the floor of the Rajya Sabha.
Satheesan credited Singh's tenure with the RTI Act, MGNREGA, the National Food Security Act, the Forest Rights Act and the Right to Education, saying history will remember him as a consequential Prime Minister.
