FSSAI Cracks Down as Bournvita Withdraws Health Claims

India’s food regulator is checking whether companies make food products sound healthier or better than they really are.

It has sent more than 150 notices to food businesses.

Bournvita’s maker changed or removed some health-related claims after receiving regulatory attention.

Bournvita had already faced scrutiny in 2023 over sugar levels and nutrition claims in advertisements aimed at children.

The regulator had advised companies in May 2025 to stop using “100%” in food labels and advertisements.

Other companies also changed their packaging and advertising.

Amway removed some “100%” and “Energy Drink” wording, while Juza Foods agreed to withdraw several health claims.

The regulator is also examining online marketplaces and restaurants so consumers receive more accurate information.
