Courts Intervene in Cricket Association Elections
The Supreme Court and the Gujarat High Court have both stepped in to handle issues with upcoming elections for cricket associations.
The Supreme Court said that elections for the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) can happen, but the results should wait until they make a decision.
Some clubs had complained about how the voter list was made and that some clubs were left out.
The Gujarat High Court told the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) not to reject a doctor's bid for president because he can't be there in person when they check his papers.
The doctor's son is getting married that day.
Both courts will hear more about these cases soon.
The Supreme Court agreed to hear a plea regarding JKCA elections and directed that the results should not be declared.
The Gujarat High Court directed the BCA not to reject Dr Darshan Banker's presidential candidacy due to his absence during nomination scrutiny.
Dr Banker's son's wedding on January 20 conflicted with the BCA's nomination scrutiny date.
The BCA's new clause requiring candidates' presence during scrutiny was challenged as a deviation from usual practice.
Both courts will hear more about these cases on February 2 and January 15, respectively.
