CTU Employees Protest After Shunting Out
Some employees of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) were told to leave their jobs because their buses were old.
The union said they were promised new jobs when electric buses arrive, but that didn't happen.
So, they protested.
The government used a special rule to stop the protest and fire the employees who joined it.
Now, the union and other worker groups are asking for these employees to get their jobs back and are planning to protest more if they don't.
CTU administration declared 85 buses as condemned and relieved 142 outsourced drivers.
Conductors were transferred to other depots, and drivers were not assigned duties on a rotational basis.
The CTU Contract Workers union protested, leading to the termination of services of participating drivers and conductors under ESMA.
The Sanyukt Karamchari Morcha appealed to regular CTU organizations to support the union and announced a convention on December 16 to address employee demands.
Other unions and federations agreed with the demand for reinstatement and support for contract workers.
