ECI Figures Show TMC Won Seats With Highest Voter Deletions
The Election Commission reviewed voter lists before West Bengal's 2026 election.
It removed many names, but some were later restored.
The five seats with the most names removed were all won by the Trinamool Congress.
The five seats with the fewest removals were all won by the BJP.
These facts do not prove that the changes caused either party to win.
Opposition parties say genuine voters may have been left off the lists.
The Election Commission says the review was meant to make voter lists accurate.
It also says people marked absent, moved, dead or duplicated were not automatically barred from voting.
West Bengal reported a 93.71% turnout.
All five West Bengal constituencies with the most voter deletions during the SIR were won by the Trinamool Congress in the 2026 Assembly election.
Sujapur had the most deletions, 1,50,410; 1,14,766 names were restored before the nomination-filing deadline.
The five constituencies with the fewest deletions recorded reductions of 8,254 to 9,309 names, and all were won by the BJP.
Across West Bengal, 90,83,345 names were removed from a roll of about 7.66 crore electors; the ECI says the figures do not establish that deletions decided the election.
The ECI says 13.39 crore voters identified as absent, permanently shifted, dead or duplicate were not automatically disenfranchised; West Bengal turnout was 93.71%.

Effect of voter deletions
Opposition parties
Opposition parties allege the SIR excluded genuine voters and affected the electoral outcome, describing the deletions as "vote chori."
Election Commission of India
The ECI rejects the allegations and says the revision was intended to ensure accurate electoral rolls; the constituency figures do not establish that deletions determined results.
