Hyderabad: Many Pedestrian Signals Non-Functional, Posing Safety Risks
In Hyderabad, signals meant to help people cross the road safely are often not working.
These signals, called pelican signals, are supposed to give pedestrians a green light while stopping cars.
But many are broken, placed in bad spots, or don't change the car lights.
This makes it dangerous to cross the street, especially near hospitals.
The authorities say they are trying to fix the signals, but for now, it's risky for people walking.
Many pedestrian signals in Hyderabad are malfunctioning, posing risks to pedestrians.
Out of 31 pedestrian signals in Hyderabad, several are either non-functional or poorly placed.
Cyberabad recorded 256 pedestrian deaths in 2024, raising concerns about safety.
Traffic police state 14 signals are non-functional, but ground checks show more issues.
Officials cite automation and outdated vehicle signals as contributing to the problem.
