NMC Revokes Jammu Medical College Recognition Amid Protests
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has taken away the permission for a medical college in Jammu called SMVDIME.
They did this because the college didn't meet the required standards, including having enough teachers and facilities.
All the students studying there will be moved to other colleges.
Some people have been protesting because most of the students in the college are Muslim from Kashmir.
They want the college to be closed and only admit Hindu students because it is funded by a Hindu shrine.
The NMC says they made this decision to ensure quality education.
The college officials say there were no problems with their infrastructure and that the inspection was conducted unfairly.
NMC revoked SMVDIME's recognition due to failure to meet essential standards.
All MBBS students will be transferred to other recognized medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir.
Protesters demand closure of SMVDIME, arguing it should cater primarily to Hindu students.
BJP welcomes NMC decision, terming it 'quality over quantity'.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had earlier urged the Centre to shut down the institution.
