Ladakh Plans Major Push to Expand Pashmina Production

Ladakh Plans Major Push to Expand Pashmina Production

Ladakh wants to help its famous pashmina industry grow.

Pashmina is a soft wool produced by goats in the region.

Officials want local businesses and workers to make, process and sell more pashmina products.

They discussed problems such as getting raw materials, paying producers on time and finding enough pasture and fodder.

They also want better spinning, weaving, packaging and branding.

Ladakh plans to use exhibitions and designer showcases to reach more buyers across India.

Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra visited a plant in Leh that removes unwanted hair from the wool.

He said better storage, sorting, grading and training could improve quality and help local livelihoods.
