NIMS partners with Satoru Foundation for free dementia support
The Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad made a new partnership with the Satoru Foundation.
They will give free counseling and emotional help to about 15,000 older people who have dementia each year.
Volunteers from the foundation will visit the hospital’s neurology and geriatrics wards to talk with patients and their families.
They will also teach caregivers how to look after their loved ones and reduce stress.
Students studying nursing, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy will get special training in caring for older adults.
The plan also helps seniors sign up for a government health insurance program.
This partnership aims to make it easier for people with dementia to get the help they need.
NIMS and Satoru Foundation signed a MoU for free psychosocial support for dementia patients.
About 15,000 elderly patients will receive counseling each year at no cost.
Satoru volunteers will assist in wards and outpatient departments under NIMS doctors’ supervision.
Training programs will be offered to caregivers and final‑year nursing, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy students.
The partnership will also help eligible seniors enroll in the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme.
