Canada Eases Job Transitions for Foreign Workers
Canada has changed a rule to help foreign workers.
If they have a temporary work permit and want a new job, they can start the new job sooner, even before their paperwork is finished.
This helps both the workers, who can find better jobs or deal with issues, and employers, who can fill important positions faster.
The government hopes this change will make the most of the skills of the foreign workers already in the country.
However, there is some disagreement about whether the TFW program is a good idea.
Canada introduced a policy to allow temporary foreign workers to change jobs more quickly.
The policy, effective May 27, allows foreign workers to start new jobs while awaiting permit processing.
The policy is aimed at better utilizing skills and addressing labor gaps.
The change applies to workers with job offers under the TFW or International Mobility Programs.
Some members of parliament have opposing views on TFW programs.
