Modi announces civil defence force to counter new-age security threats

India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, gave a big speech on Saturday.

It was India's 80th Independence Day.

He spoke from a famous fort called the Red Fort.

In his speech, he said India will create a big new group of people to help keep the country safe, called a civil defence force.

Modi explained that wars are not only fought on borders anymore.

They can also happen in places like banks and computer data centres.

So regular citizens need to be ready and trained to stay safe too.

The new force will use modern systems to protect people from dangers like chemical attacks and natural disasters.

This plan builds on an old law from 1968 that helps protect people during emergencies.
