Telangana Plans Open Market Borrowings for October-December
The Telangana government plans to borrow ₹9,600 crore from the market during the last three months of the year.
This comes after borrowing ₹48,000 crore earlier, which raised concerns because it neared its borrowing limit.
The state used a large portion of the earlier loans to pay back expensive loans taken for the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS).
The state is working with the Central government to lower interest rates on existing debts.
The government wants to increase the amount of money it can borrow from what was originally planned.
Telangana plans to borrow ₹9,600 crore through open market borrowings.
The state already borrowed ₹48,000 crore in the first half of the fiscal year.
₹32,303 crore of the initial borrowing was used to repay high-interest KLIS loans.
The Centre approved the rescheduling of ₹25,000 crore of high-interest loans.
The state is seeking to increase its borrowing limit.
