University Vice-Chancellor Appointments Delayed Amidst File Transfer Issues
Imagine the governor is like the principal of all the universities in the state, and he has to pick new leaders, called vice-chancellors, for six of them.
He met some people who were chosen for these jobs.
But, even though everyone was ready, the paperwork needed to officially make them leaders got stuck.
The papers are at the governor's office, and they need to be sent to another office that makes the final announcements.
This office was closed for holidays, and even after it opened, the papers hadn't arrived yet.
Because the papers are missing, the announcement of the new leaders is delayed.
This is a problem because some important tasks at the universities, like hiring teachers or even fixing things like security cameras, can't happen without these new leaders in place.
Appointments of full-term Vice-Chancellors for Jadavpur University and Calcutta University were delayed on Tuesday.
The delay is due to the Raj Bhavan not sending the appointment files to the Education Department.
The Governor, as ex-officio Chancellor, had met shortlisted candidates on Monday.
Files are expected to be sent after the Chhath holidays, with appointments to follow as per Supreme Court direction.
The absence of full-term VCs has led to pending tasks like teacher appointments and executive council meetings.
